When creating a portrait statue of an animal, Ed Bogucki always tries to seek the opinions of the people who knew that animal most intimately.
Eddie Sweat visited Ed Bogucki's studio to view the clay model as it neared completion. He offered many useful pieces of information concerning the horse's behavior and movement. He was also brimming with stories of the time he spent caring for Secretariat. One of the funniest. . .The great horse was late getting to the paddock for the Derby because he was *sleeping* when Sweat went to get him ready. Eddie had to wake him, get him on his feet and clean him up again before they could be on their way. J Eddie Sweat was surprised and delighted to learn that he was to be a part of the sculpture.
Ron Turcotte had the opportunity to view the maquette in August of 1991 at Beresford Gallery in Saratoga, New York.
Secretariat's exercise rider Jim Gaffney discusses photos of the maquette with Ed Bogucki and Deborah Logerquist, DVM. Dr. Logerquist is a dear family friend and a #1 Secretariat fan! Copyright © 2003 Bogucki Studios and Katherine Bogucki All rights reserved. |
